Lets face it – for some us the thought of narrowing down our closet to 30 pieces is terrifying. Simplifying your wardrobe to navy, black, grey and white is a total snooze fest.
Sounding familiar? Do you think of your closet as a palate and your outfit, a daily masterpiece? If so, CONGRATULATIONS - you are one artistic fashionista! Your personality shines through the colors, prints, and combos that your mind creates each morning. Getting dressed is not a chore, but an art project! Your body is the canvas, your closet is the medium and your final product is one killer look for that day.
Here are some tips for you creative dressers:
Stay inspired. Fashion magazines, Instagram and style icons are great ways to keep your stylized mind a-going. BUT, don’t be limited to these straightforward fashion resources. Think outside the box. Find inspiration in a great wallpaper for new print ideas, a fun pillow case for new color combos or even flowing drapery for how to mix textures. Inspiration is all around you and your artistic mind is eager to soak it in.
Keep your closet fresh. Feeling bored is just the worst for a creative mind. You may rarely like to repeat outfits, which means your clothing is gently used and perfect for a secondhand store. My challenge to you is: 1. Sort through your clothes regularly (I mean like every 4 months) 2. Find a GREAT consignment shop – donate your treasures and fund that shopping habit ;) 3. Keep new colors, styles and prints coming in and out of your closet. This will help you stay inspired and have a new palette to work with regularly.
Get creative. Learn how to give new life to different pieces. That LBD (Little Black Dress)? Put a sweater over it and now it is a skirt. A low back sweater? Turn it around and put a fun camisole underneath, now it is a deep v-neck top that no one has seen before. Button-up dress? Unbutton it! Finally, ACCESSORIZE! A statement necklace can bring a basic or graphic tee to a whole other level. Arm candy may bring your artistic mind to layering bracelets and a watch as your new outfit show-stopper, giving your basic sweater a whole new perspective.
